Welcome back to my #SwottingAsABusinessAnalyst series. Read my previous post here.
If you're new here, explore the initial post of my journey 'Swotting' as a budding Business Analyst.
Week #9 of my journey as a Business Analyst was filled with practical experiences, mainly centered around observing and participating in various team rituals such as retrospectives and daily stand-ups.
Key Takeaways:
1. Facilitation is Key: I learned the importance of effective facilitation, which involves setting agendas, initiating ice-breaker activities to foster team bonding, and ensuring that all necessary links and resources are shared promptly.
2. Team-Specific Insights:
Daily Stand-Ups: I observed that the format of daily stand-ups varies depending on the nature of the project team. Utilizing tools like JIRA aids communication, but it's crucial to tailor its usage to the team's needs. Additionally, filtering discussions can help focus conversations, although it may not always be effective.
Retrospectives: Whether using MIRO or Retrium, I discovered that there are numerous methods for conducting retrospectives. Ice-breaker activities set a positive tone, while establishing ground rules helps create a conducive environment for open discussion. Starting with kudos fosters positivity and encourages constructive feedback.

One thing that I learned that’s for sure, the only way I can be good at facilitating these rituals are by doing it anyway!
In conclusion, Week #9 provided me with valuable insights into the diverse practices and tools used in business analysis. Each observation and interaction served as valuable insight to help me for the session I am facilitating.
