13 Things I Learned from My 30-Day Online Writing Adventure
#Ship30in30 #30daysofwriting
Can't believe it, today marks my 30th day of daily writing. Beyond word count, each day has woven a tapestry of self-discovery. Let me share the journey with you. Here’s what I learned :
Showing up is hard! Consistency becomes habit, making it easier to flow thoughts onto the page. Some days, I just sit here, staring at the blank screen, wondering where to begin.
Not everything needs to be posted. Some thoughts need private journaling. It's like filtering out the noise in my head before I can share something constructive with the world.
Time slows down. It's like a magic trick. The more I write, the more details I notice in my everyday life. Ordinary moments turn into ideas, which eventually become words in my writing.
Improving articulation. I'm getting better at expressing my thoughts. Whether in a conversation with a friend or facilitating discussions at work, words seem to come more naturally.
Focused thinking. Writing helps me think clearly. It's about cutting through the fluff and focusing on the core ideas. I've noticed how my writing style has evolved since day one. Therapeutic and brain exercise. Writing feels like a therapy session, a brain workout. It's like my mind is flexing its muscles, getting stronger with each word I put down.
Deeper understanding. It's not just about putting words on the page; it's about making sure I understand what I'm writing. I end up doing more research to simplify concepts for others. This shift in perspective helps me empathize with the world around me.
Self-awareness of beliefs. I've learned that not everyone sees things the way I do. My personal beliefs can sometimes distort my thoughts. It's about being aware that different people have different perspectives and making sure that I am shipping my thoughts even if it’s a sensitive topics, it is still in a respectful way.
A strategy using SEO and keywords is never a bad idea when writing online. It will help my writings to reach out to wider group of people. Writing online means you are writing not just for you but to be found by others.
Writing got me out of the maze. Writing intentionally in geberal has brought me clarity. It's become a guiding compass, helping me navigate through the labyrinth of daily choices.
Mistakes are part of the process. When I started 30 days ago, I knew I wouldn't write perfect blog posts. But with each mistake, I learn and improve. It's like shaping a more informed narrative with every word.
Having support is important too! Sharing thoughts with the world can be terrifying. Some days, I feel like I am an imposter thinking, “What am I even doing this for?”. Having unwavering support at home, especially from my husband, boosts my confidence. It becomes a shared journey, not a solo pursuit.
Watching my legacy grow. Each post is like a page added to the story of my life. A tiny bit of self-indulgence, perhaps, but also a legacy in the making. Something to look back on and see how my interests and thoughts have evolved.
Building connections. The writing journey extends beyond words. It opens doors to new friendships and forges stronger connections with like-minded individuals. This, for me, is the fun part. I’ve got friends who replied to tell me they find that my journaling tips are useful or that they wanted to read the book I recommended in my posts. Not just that, only on Saturday I learned that I have earned RM5 (1 USD) from my affiliate links that I’d shared on my blog! A dollar may not mean anything to a seasoned online writer, but for me, it means the world! Achievement unlock right there!
Most importantly, writing on this blog is a deeply personal expression. It's not just a 30-day experiment; it's a return to my roots. I've been writing online since I was 21 and have been writing as young as I could remember, probably ever since I can start to write at 5. Growing up, I was influenced by a nerdy habit, thanks to my father, who was once a blogger, and my mother, who has a collection of journals at home. They both read and write every single day! I guess I took it from my parents, so I wrote. However, life got busy, and I stopped.
Till one day, my boyfriend, now husband, gifted me a hedgehog for Valentine’s day. I remember holding his tiny body that fit perfectly in my palm when we drove back home. He, given the name Noni (we thought he was a girl!), my hedgehog and companion for two years, taught me lessons through tiny moments, as if I could see the world through his tiny lens. His little paws carried profound wisdom, showing me that every day is a new door full of surprises, that strength comes in small packages, and that every living thing has a purpose. Losing him reminded me that life is short, and living with purpose is a legacy. His little image, sketching him reading a book with a coffee mug, reminded me to get back to what I truly love to do—writing. That's why he's the logo of my blog, a reminder that life is short, and living is a legacy. Not sure where this is leading to after today, we will see how it goes! Hope you find something from my writings that’s going to help you live a productive life and being a better person. And Noni, he will be with us in spirits ❤️ 🦔
