Atmosphere & a gist of thoughts
The One About the Sheep and Other Stories edited by Catherine Evans is a heartwarming collection of short stories that leaves you feeling both wholesome and a little sad when you reach the end—mainly because you don’t want it to be over!
I’m really grateful to Kate, the social media manager at Ink Spot Publishing, for connecting with Catherine Evans (the author, editor of the book) and giving me the chance to read it for free. I took my time with this one because I wanted to truly savor each story rather than rush through them. Little did I know I’d end up loving it so much!
The One About The Sheep (edited by Catherine Evans)
Each story is beautifully written and has its own unique charm, touching on themes like refugee experiences, relationships, and even a quirky story involving a husband, wife, and a very patient sheep!
The standout story for me was about an English family who helps a refugee reunite with his loved ones. It broke my heart in the best way and left me wishing it was a longer story. Which chapter is it? I’ll let you find out!
Honestly, my only complaint is that this book was too short. The authors in this collection are so talented, and it’s a shame for anyone to miss out on their writing!
This book is perfect for those in-between moments when you need something light yet meaningful to break a reading slump or just want a quick, wholesome escape. You can read it all in one sitting, or do what I did and enjoy a story a day, which made the experience last even longer.
The collection is a true showcase of the talent of the authors involved, all of whom deserve the recognition they got in the "ChipLitFest Short Story Competition Winners 2016-22." If you enjoy short stories that leave a lasting impression while still being warm and relatable, this is a must-read. And to think it was free—what a gift! Big thanks to Kate and the team ❤️
