Always love
“Hecato says, ‘I can teach you a love potion made without any drugs, herbs, or special spell—if you would be loved, love.’”
—SENECA, MORAL LETTERS, 9.6
The day I wrote this, was on 15th February (it’s still Valentine’s Day somewhere on earth). 2 years ago, on this date it was just seven days to go before the big day, our wedding; before I am being married to my bestfriend who is also my first love. It felt like today is a perfect day to celebrate our milestones together.
My husband and I typically don't make a big deal out of Valentine's Day, but every now and then, he surprises me in the most unexpected ways. For me, the perfect gift isn't necessarily about what I receive, but rather the thoughtfulness behind his surprises, showing me that he's thinking of me. My mother used to say, “it’s the thoughts that counts”. Today was just another example of his thoughtfulness shining through.
To my husband,
Growing up, the only love story that truly captured my attention was the love and affection demonstrated by my parents. Though not perfect, it was all I knew about love. Yet, since meeting you, I've experienced a level of love and being loved that surpasses anything I've ever known (at some point, surpassing the bond I had with anyone at all).
Before we found each other, I consume stories that consumed me, about the trials relationships must endure. People cautioned me that for every expression of affection, there would be obstacles to navigate that’s almost impossible to pass through before finding lasting happiness. It sounded like a daunting battle, like one to none could be free from and one I was hesitant to engage in. The fear they instilled in me was like an abyss I was afraid to fall into.
What was not mentioned was that two person is a team. We are a team, as you always say it. It’s a strangest thing that crept through me; it was foreign to me at first.
For over the years of learning how to be loved by a person and mostly to love another person, I've gradually come to firmly believe that living with someone who offers boundless affection (hopeless romantic, I give you that), in an environment brimming with love day and night, is one of life's greatest blessings. Everything a woman could hope to be found within our home: open communication, the transparency, the gentleness and affection, and a blind trust that binds us together (but maybe not with our food!)
Just like you always remind me, remind both of us, that we are a team and as a team we’ll celebrate the imperfection of loves as we grow together (will grey hair and saggy bums!)
For all these blessing, wishing us a thousand more years of love and respect together. Also, this is also published on our 2nd wedding anniversary.
A rare eclipse this must have been, to see me be writing this openly.
