Wouldn’t it be nice if this my daily reality…
I just finished reading Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop by Hwang Bo-reum as I'm writing this. It left me with a wholesome feeling about a woman who finds joy in opening a bookshop and everything bookish within its pages. This book will goes into my booknotes pile, soon to be written so that I could retain my memories and takeaways from this delightful read.

Today, I found myself at a bookshop cafe, a rare treat after work for me. I had a few new books ready to dive into, so I decided to stay for a couple of hours and indulge in some reading. The barista behind the counter greeted me cheerfully and directed me to a seat after I placed my order. I opted for a hot matcha with a beautifully decorated milk art and a small slice of lemon poppy seed cake - my favorite combination of matcha bitterness and the lemony taste of the cake!
I was so excited about my new books, carefully I unwrapped the book I had bought from its plastic wrapping, inserting the bookmarks I had prepared a few days earlier. I adjusted the books and props on my coffee table, just so that I can precisely snapped a picture or two, “This one for my book blog,” I told myself. Probably too loud that I looked up to see if anyone was looking in my direction. Everyone seem to be pre-occupied with their tablets or coffee dates.
Finally settling in, I took a first bite of the cake slice and a sip of the matcha which now was no longer steaming hot. For few minutes, I re-imagine the view of the bookstore in ground floor that i went earlier. I love to see how all the books were carefully displayed with all the book spines showing the highlights of the potential joy and something new for readers to immersed in. I ponder upon Welcome to Hyunam Dong Bookshop, and I could imagine Hyunam Dong bookshop and the aesthetic of it, with a little hint of Korean decoration, just right in a narrow street of Korea and welcomed by friendly neighbourhood. Must be cosy too and inviting to all bookworms. I thought, wouldn’t it be nice if that’s my reality too?
